How The Hell Do they Work??
We always use hundreds of websites a thousand times and at any moment we start to think about how every thing around web works and the question arises how these websites work?? So, here i am making it as descriptive way as i can! This could be also used for beginners to study the terminology of working of websites!
Basically all websites like the most re known Google & Facebook work pretty same way! To Start a website you have to find a host who will store your website's data and all. So this is sorted by either using other data hosting websites or setting up your own data hosting systems , for this you have to buy servers having huge (Form huge i don't mean you have to have data availability like google you can sort it out for just a couple of TERA Bytes "1024GB=1TB" also.) data storage capacity and a bulk processing system for yours data handling and processing.
The First Question arises? What the heck are Servers?
Servers are basically computers having a big data storage capacity and processing speed running like basic operating systems like LINUX , they are programmed with server programming languages like PHP or Apache . To clear the confusing a program called Apache or PHP runner is installed in that linux computers and then these programs run on these computers. These program runs scripts or codes programmed by the company and serve data to the user accordingly. You could go here for more details. For extra marks i may tell you that these servers are made by companies and are much more thinner than the normal computers and big websites like google makes there own servers they don't buy them from Dell or IBM.
- Now You know what are servers and how they work but to where the heck are they connected??
They are basically connected to very very high speed internet conncetions by satellite or something and then the serve data all over the internet.
The www. example.com is basically a domain which is to be bought from domain sellers. Like www.google.com is and domain of Google Inc where all it's websites are published. You might have seen mail.gooogle.com , the 'mail.' is the subdomain.
Every web portal is a website but not every website has it's own domain main like this domain is owned by google "hacksandfixes.blogspot.com" but the domain isn't ours. But we owe the sub-domain for free. So we have a website not a domain. These domains are bout and used as the main domain for servers to server data and webpages on.
- And! What is this http or https shit?
This http is a protocol for asking data from the server and http stads for HYPER TEXT TRANSFER PROTOCOL , and https is a new type of protocol which is more secure than the previous one. https stands for HYPER TEXT TRANSFER PROTOCOL SECURE.
This question has a big answer! , it costs a bag full of money to handle these websites and for the the first setup you need several bags of money but it depends how much your website is used so you have to use a server infrastructure accordingly and in return if your website is used virally it makes you many bags full of money from advertising and based on the traffic of your website.
I Hope ! This helps.
This article is still under construction further stuff will be added shortly.
